Also, August 14th marks our 6th Anniversary in Jeffersonville (remember we were in another location before this one?)  Stay tuned for some exciting news about Global Home adding a second location too!

Global Home in the News

Picture 1Check out our credit in the Kansas City Star for our fabulous Moroccan rubber coasters on their story about a pre-’Sex and The City party. What a good idea!

The Kansas City Star “Make your own Moroccan-inspired menu for pre-’Sex and the City 2′ party” Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte live in New York. On their first big-screen outing, they wound up in Mexico. But their latest clothes-and-cocktail-infused road trip in “Sex and the City 2” is their most exotic yet. The gals’ getaway is set in Abu Dhabi but was filmed in Morocco. Yes, they’re different countries, but both share similar cuisines and design sensibilities, so it’s easy to channel the film for a pre-screening fete with your friends. To get the look, pick up a few colorful, ornate lanterns at Pier 1 or World Market. Consider white gauzy fabric such as scrim (about $2 a yard) to create opulent, casbah-like tenting. Cocktails also have a starring role in “Sex and the City” episodes, so consider dressing them up with ornate decorative tile coasters [at globalhomeny.com]

A Formidible Retro Style: “Preppy Pop”

SlimAaron Long ago, the style of Park Avenue Princes and Palm Beach Princesses was little known to most of the general population.

Then came the 1950’s when famed photographer Slim Aarons began “his self-described mission of documenting attractive people doing attractive things in attractive places”. His subject matter was the international elite in their exclusive homes and playgrounds  (see example above). With the flash of a camera bulb preppy style was cataloged in mainstream magazines of the time such as Life, Town & Country and Venture. In the 1960’s, America fawned over it’s very own Preppy Royal Family when the Kennedy’s burst onto the country’s political scene. Then the 70’s happened — and as with all things that the 70’s happened to — Preppy Style went on an acid trip. And then, of course, in the 80’s, Preppy style was commercialized, mass-marketed, parodied and ultimately trashed via the now infamous  “Official Preppy Handbook”.

It’s Cool. Nearly three decades have passed since Preppy Style was the butt of a joke. At Global Home, we think the look is inherently fabulous and fun, despite it’s elitist roots.

Dreaming of an Escape: The Paris Apartment

ParisAptThe Paris Apartment: Maybe it’s because we’re out in the country in the dead of winter, but something about this time of year always gets us longing for some urban living, some cultural stimulation, some . . . “Je ne sais quoi”.  Our imaginary Paris Apartment is a combination of precious European antiques, globally inspired objet d’ art, and Parisian Flea Market finds.
