When hired to tackle this project, we walked into a vast, contemporary weekend home with just a few pieces of low-quality outdated furniture scattered about. Every wall was white, and it felt bare, cold, and, quite frankly, downright unwelcoming. The warm and welcoming home-owners were anything but that. This home was NOT a reflection of them AT ALL. Despite the house being a late 20th Century vastly spacious contemporary, the home-owners wanted it to feel cozy. In the words of the homeowners, they requested that we make it feel “less like an insane asylum”. We achieved this by layering textiles, mixing materials, adding fields of tonal colors, and incorporating antiques into the mix. The result is a home where the owners can entertain, relax, and feel like they can stay longer than just Saturday night.
